Résumé Les Viévon constituent l’un des groupes sociaux les plus anciennement installés dans l’Ouest de l’actuel Burkina Faso. C’est une société à la fois segmentaire et hiérarchisée. Ce modèle d’organisation sociopolitique permet de constater une certaine forme de décentralisation du pouvoir politique. En effet, l’exploitation des différentes sources disponibles montre qu’il existe au Viguéra précolonial, cinq (05) grands types de chefferies : Les chefferies de terre, de village et de patriclan dans l’espace villageois et les chefferies de l’État viéwo et du matriclan au niveau national. Mais, l’évolution de cette société au cours des siècles suivants a bouleversé ce mode d’organisation. C’est pourquoi, il est utile de mener la réflexion sur les types de chefferies au Viguéra du XVIIe à la fin du XVIIIe siècle. L’étude permet de comprendre la particularité de chacune de ces chefferies à travers l’analyse de leur mode de fonctionnement. Ainsi, il s’agit de passer en revue ces types de chefferies en mettant l’accent sur leur mode de fonctionnement et successoral. Cet essai privilégie l’approche sociohistorique. Mots clés : chefferie, fonctionnement, intronisation, succession, Viguéra. Abstract The Viévon constitute one of the oldest social groups established in the west of present-day Burkina Faso. It is a society that is both segmental and hierarchical. This model of socio- political organization allows us to observe a certain form of decentralization of political power. Indeed, the exploitation of the different available shows that there exist in pre- colonial Viguéra, five (05) major types of chiefdoms: Land, village and patriclan (a sort of patriarch) chiefdoms in the village space and the chiefdoms of the Viewo state and the matriclan at the national level. But the evolution of this society over the following centuries disrupted this mode of organization. This is why it is useful to reflect on the types of chiefdoms in Viguéra from the 16th to the end of the 18th century. The study will allow us to understand the particularity of each of these chiefdoms through the analysis of their mode of operation. Thus, it will be a question of reviewing these types of chiefdoms with emphasis on their mode of functioning and inheritance. Keywords : chieftaincy, enthronement, functioning, succession, Viguéra.
